Penderyn Headliner Icons Of Wales No 9
£55.00
Penderyn Headliner is the ninth release in the Icons of Wales series. It celebrates David Lloyd George (1863–1945), the only Welshman to serve as British Prime Minister.
The name “The Headliner” is a nod to Lloyd George’s political prominence, but also to his accidental role in shaping the modern whisky industry. In 1915, he introduced the Immature Spirits Act, which legally required whisky to be aged for at least three years—unintentionally turning a rough “moonshine” industry into a premium, aged-spirit market.

Description
The “Icons” Series Context
This series is Penderyn’s way of telling the history of Wales through whisky. Other notable releases include:
-
#11 Patagonia: Celebrating the Welsh settlement in South America.
-
#12 Copperopolis: Celebrating Swansea’s copper industry.
-
#13 Bad Wolf: A recent collaboration with the famous TV production company (Doctor Who).
Tasting Notes:
Because of the Rum and Port influence, this is one of Penderyn’s sweetest and most “dessert-like” releases.
Nose: Very bright and fruity. You’ll find notes of red berries (strawberries and cream), cranberries, and light vanilla, balanced by warming spices like nutmeg and cinnamon.
Palate: Rich and sweet. The Port influence brings dried fruits and salted caramel, while the Jamaican Rum adds a tropical, honeyed depth. There is a slight peppery kick of black pepper toward the end.
Finish: Medium-long, transitioning from a cloying sweetness into a drier, oaky, and fruity finish.
