Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition Charred Oak Cask
£199.00
The Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition is a highly successful series of limited releases created in partnership with actor Nick Offerman (famed for his Parks and Recreation character Ron Swanson).
Since its debut in 2019, the series has evolved into an annual release, with each “Edition” featuring a unique cask finish that layers new flavors onto the classic, heavy Lagavulin peat.
The Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition Charred Oak Cask (Release #3, 2022) is widely considered the “bravest” and most savory entry in the Nick Offerman series.

Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition
🥃 The “Charred Oak” Experience
The defining characteristic of this bottle is the use ofSTR casks (Shaved, Toasted, and Re-charred). These are American and European oak barrels that previously held either Scotch or red wine, which were then heavily re-charred to maximize wood-to-spirit interaction.
The Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition: Charred Oak Cask (Edition #3, 2022) is perhaps the most “intense” entry in the Nick Offerman series. While the Guinness Edition was creamy and the Rum Finish was tropical, this release focuses on heavy wood influence and high-octane smoke.
🥃 Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose: The Industrial Orchard
Top Notes: A massive phenolic blast of peat and campfire smoke. It smells like smoldering driftwood and “crocodile skin” charred oak.
Undertones: Beneath the smoke, there is a surprising layer of sweetness. Many reviewers pick up on red berry jam (likely from the European wine casks), salted caramel, and grilled peaches.
The “Meaty” Edge: There’s a distinct savory quality—think crispy bacon or leather.
Palate: Smoke, Spice, and Steak
The Entry: It starts surprisingly sweet with honey, vanilla, and milk chocolate.
The Middle: The wood takes over. Intense flavors of burnt brisket ends, black pepper, and charred orange peel. It is drier and more “ashy” than the standard Lagavulin 16.
The “STR” Effect: Because the barrels were shaved and re-charred, the wood spice (cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg) is very prominent, cutting through the heavy peat.
Finish: The Lingering Bonfire
It is long, warm, and exceptionally ashy. It leaves a drying sensation of soot and tobacco leaf, balanced by a final whisper of dark chocolate and sea salt.
