Bowmore Surf Travel Exclusive Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1L
£220.00
Bowmore Surf is a classic, though now discontinued, Islay single malt Scotch whisky. Originally released as a Travel Retail Exclusive (Duty Free) in the 1990s, it was designed to be a lighter, approachable entry point into the smoky world of Islay whiskies.
This particular expression dates from the mid-1990s with the box noting that the distillery was awarded Distiller of the Year at the 1995 International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Description
Bowmore Surf
Why was it called “Surf”?
The name was a tribute to the distillery’s location on the shores of Loch Indaal. The No. 1 Vaults at Bowmore are famously located below sea level, and the “Surf” expression was intended to highlight the briny, maritime influence that the Atlantic Ocean has on the maturing spirit.
Tasting Notes:
Because it was aged in bourbon casks rather than sherry butts (which Bowmore is also famous for), the “Surf” has a very coastal, saline character.
Nose: Fresh and salty with a “sea breeze” quality. You’ll find light peat smoke, lemon zest, and a hint of vanilla.
Palate: Relatively light-bodied. It tastes of citrus (grapefruit/orange), honey, and a gentle, campfire-style smoke. It lacks the heavy medicinal punch of Laphroaig, making it “sessionable.”
Finish: Medium length, slightly dry, with lingering notes of salt and cocoa.
