📝 Flavour Profile: The Marsala Influence
The use ofMarsala wine casks is what distinguishes this Ardbeg expression, giving it a unique mix of rich sweetness and classic Islay peat smoke.
Nose: Expect the typical Ardbeg peat and smoke, but with an accompanying layer ofripe, sweet fruits such asdried apricots,black plums, andChristmas cake spices (cinnamon, ginger). Notes of toffee and vanilla creme brûlée also appear.
Palate: Rich and oily texture. The taste delivers a contrast of tangy citrus and sweet, unsweetened tropical fruit (pineapple cubes, melon) with dark chocolate and toasted almonds. The peat is present as asooty, tarry smoke that integrates beautifully with the fruit and spice.
Finish: Long, intense, and satisfying. It ends with lingeringsweet vanilla, a touch ofsea salt, andspiced leather.
