The Macallan Edition No 4 is the fourth release in the Edition Series, a limited-edition collection that explores The Macallan’s mastery of wood and its impact on the flavor of the whisky. Released in 2018, this expression is particularly significant as it was created to celebrate the opening of The Macallan’s impressive new distillery in Speyside.

The Whisky:

Theme:  Macallan Edition No 4 focuses on the “structure of the whisky,” paying homage to the craftsmanship and pioneering design of the new distillery. The whisky maker at the time, Nick Savage, sought to demonstrate how a combination of different cask types can create a complex and balanced spirit.

Cask Selection: This single malt was crafted from a blend of seven different cask types, all sherry-seasoned. These included a combination of European and American oak casks, both first-fill and refill, with specific contributions from various cooperages, such as Vasyma, Diego Martin Rosado, and Tevasa.

ABV: It is bottled at 48.4% ABV.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Burnished copper.

Nose: Bold and rounded with notes of honey, sweet apples, orange zest, ginger, and nutmeg. There’s a background of polished oak and subtle floral undertones.

Palate: Nutmeg and wood spices are prominent, followed by a sweet vanilla and a viscous mouthfeel.

Finish: Long and lasting, with a fruity sweetness and oaky notes.

As a limited-edition release from 2018, Macallan Edition No is highly sought after whisky for whisky lovers and collectors.
