Macallan Concept No 2

Description

Macallan Concept No 2 was a unique creation by The Macallan’s Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner. What makes this release special is that Bremner is not only a master of whisky but also a passionate house music DJ. He drew a parallel between the creative processes of layering sounds in a music track and layering flavours from different casks in a single malt.

Release: Released at the end of 2019, Concept No. 2 was a Global Travel Retail exclusive, meaning it was primarily sold in airport duty-free stores and The Macallan’s airport boutiques.

Cask Selection: To create a “rhythmic” and “vibrant” flavour profile, a combination of three cask types was used:

Sherry-seasoned American oak casks for a “rhythmic sweetness of vanilla, citrus and toffee.”

Miguel Martin sherry casks to create an “energetic treble” with their rounded spiciness.

Ex-bourbon casks to introduce “harmonies of floral citrus and vanilla.”

ABV: 40%

Tasting Notes

The tasting notes for Macallan Concept No 2 reflect its musical inspiration.

Colour: Sunburst gold.

Nose: Rich toffee apple, with vanilla, warming oak spice, and blackberry. Hints of nutmeg, rose water, and pistachio.

Palate: Sweet toffee and dried apple with almond, cinnamon, and gentle rounded wood spice.

Finish: A medium, sweet, and smooth finish with hints of spice and toffee.

Packaging:

The packaging for Macallan Concept No 2 is an integral part of the concept. It features a unique, deep purple design with visual motifs that evoke vinyl records and house music.

As a limited-edition travel retail exclusive from 2019, The Macallan Concept No 2 is a highly sought after bottling.
