The Glengoyne 16 Year Old Mizunara Oak is 2025 limited release is part of Oak Masters’ Series .The whisky first matures for 10 years in Glengoyne’s classic first-fill sherry and refill casks. It is then transferred for an extensive six-year finishing period in rare Mizunara oak casks sourced from Japan’s Hokkaido region. Mizunara, often called “water oak,” is a notoriously difficult wood to work with, but it imparts a distinctive and prized flavour profile to the whisky.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: The aroma is a complex and captivating blend of spiced apple, baked sponge cake, and light hazelnut, with sweet notes of coconut, mandarin, and peach. There are also hints of soft toffee, oak, and lime. The Mizunara oak introduces notes of sandalwood and Japanese incense.

Palate: The mouthfeel is soft, rounded, and silky. The taste is a blend of sweet almonds, stewed pear, and more lime, along with crisp oak, milk chocolate truffle, vanilla, and a hint of baked banana. You’ll also find warming spices, coconut, and a touch of licorice.

Finish: The finish is long and sweet, with lingering cream-covered fruits, sultanas, and a lasting nuttiness. Some official notes describe it as floral and reminiscent of cherry blossoms.
