Description
Barceló Imperial is widely considered the “gold standard” of Dominican rum, famous for its incredible smoothness and approachable price point. Produced by Ron Barceló in San Pedro de Macorís, it is unique among major Dominican brands because it is distilled from 100% estate-grown sugar cane juice (similar to French Rhum Agricole) rather than molasses.
Tasting Notes
Barceló Imperial is known for its “Spanish-style” elegance—meaning it is light-to-medium bodied, silky, and carries a gentle sweetness.
Nose: Very buttery and welcoming. You’ll find aromas of butterscotch, toasted walnuts, and dried cherries, with a layer of creamy vanilla and a hint of floral jasmine.
Palate: The mouthfeel is soft and almost syrupy. It tastes of toffee, stewed apples, and brown sugar. Unlike harsher rums, there is very little “ethanol burn.”
Finish: Medium-long with a warm, woody spice—specifically cinnamon and nutmeg—and a final note of cedar and tobacco leaf.
