Macallan 14 Year Old Something Rare 2008

What Makes It Unique:

When Macallan lets independent bottlers buy their casks, they usually mandate that the bottle cannot look like a standard corporate Macallan. CPL leaned into this by releasing it under the minimalist, elegant “Something Rare” label.

Because it is a single cask bottled at full proof, you are tasting raw, unaltered Macallan distillate.

Tasting Notes

The high proof gives this 14-year-old an incredibly robust, thick mouthfeel that carries layers of flavor standard bottles just can’t replicate:

Nose: It opens up very sweet and bright, featuring baked apples, rich honey, and orange peel. Underneath, there’s a distinct savory, complex note of yellow olives mixed with dark cocoa powder and warm cinnamon.

Palate: On the tongue, it’s deep and heavy. You get hits of old leather, dried tobacco leaf, and bold oak tannins. That ruggedness is perfectly balanced by sweet milk-chocolate candy, dried figs, and a sharp prickle of black pepper and turmeric.

Finish: Long, warming, and highly satisfying, leaving behind a lingering taste of sweet malt, caramel pudding, and a soft, drying oak spice.
