Caperdonich 18 Year Old Peated Single Malt
£215.00
Caperdonich 18 Year Old Peated is a standout release from the Secret Speyside Collection by Chivas Brothers. It is highly regarded because it represents a rare, experimental era for the now-demolished distillery, which traditionally produced light, unpeated spirit for blends like Chivas Regal.
Brand: Caperdonich
Type: Single Malt
Category: Scotch Whisky
Maturation: Aged exclusively in first-fill American oak barrels, which imparts significant vanilla and toffee depth to counter the smoke.
ABV: 48% (Natural color, non-chill filtered).
The Peat Style: This is not Islay peat (no seaweed or iodine). Instead, expect earthy bonfire smoke, smoldering driftwood, and dry ash.
Batch No: (CP/005)
5 in stock
Description
The Caperdonich 18 Year Old Peated is a rare single malt from a “lost” distillery. Because the Caperdonich distillery was demolished in 2011, these bottles are highly sought after by collectors as there is a finite supply remaining.
The most prominent version currently on the market is the Peated expression from the Secret Speyside Collection.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Robust peat smoke followed by poached pears, honeyed malt, and a hint of ginger snaps.
Palate: Viscous and oily. Initial flavors of baked apple pie and brown sugar are quickly met by intense wood smoke and orange zest.
Finish: Long and warming with a distinctive “dry” or ashy quality, ending on notes of dark chocolate and lingering spice.
Reviews for the Caperdonich 18 Year Old Peated Batch 5 (CP/005) describe it as a robust, “old-school” whisky that balances the delicate fruity nature of Speyside with an intense, earthy, and almost industrial smokiness.
