The Arbikie Signature is the first-ever Single Estate Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery, an independent, family-owned farm distillery on Scotland’s east coast in Angus. It launched on 7 September 2026 — deliberately timed to the tenth anniversary of the distillery filling its very first cask — and serves as the founding release in what Arbikie is positioning as a long-term single malt programme.

Grain to Glass, All on One Farm

What sets it apart is that every single stage happened on the Arbikie Estate itself: barley grown, malted, fermented, distilled, matured and bottled without the whisky ever leaving the property. The barley is Odyssey, grown in the estate’s own “Blue Bear” field, sown and harvested in 2015. It was malted nearby at Glen Esk Maltings, given a long 96-hour fermentation, then distilled in 2016. It matured for ten years across six bourbon casks in a traditional west-facing dunnage warehouse — specifically in the estate’s former dairy buildings, now repurposed as maturation warehouses.

Description

Arbikie Signature

The Signature marks a milestone for Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery — its first-ever venture into single malt Scotch whisky, and the first release built entirely, start to finish, on one plot of land. The bottle arrived on 7 September 2026, a date chosen deliberately: it’s exactly ten years to the day since Arbikie filled its very first cask, making this launch as much a celebration of the distillery’s history as a new product debut.

What makes The Signature genuinely distinctive is its unbroken chain of custody. Nothing about this whisky ever left the Arbikie Estate on Scotland’s Angus coast. The barley itself — an Odyssey variety — was sown and harvested back in 2015 in one of the estate’s own fields. From there it went to a nearby maltings for processing, was fermented on-site for a lengthy 96 hours, then distilled in 2016. The spirit then spent a full decade resting in six ex-bourbon casks inside a converted dairy building on the farm, repurposed into a traditional dunnage-style warehouse. Every link in that chain — growing, malting, fermenting, distilling, maturing, bottling — happened on the same family-owned ground, which is a rare claim even among boutique Scotch producers.

The result is a single malt described as opening with soft orchard and stone-fruit character — peach, banana bread, a touch of lemon — before moving into bakery and citrus notes like brioche and apricot marmalade, and settling into a finish of vanilla, orange blossom, and warm spice. It’s bottled at 48% ABV in the standard 70cl format, but the run is deliberately tiny: just 1,000 bottles worldwide.

Tasting Notes:

Nose:

On the nose, it leans soft and fruity rather than smoky or peaty — think ripe peach and sliced banana bread, with a bright lift of lemon sherbet cutting through the sweetness. There’s a gentle bakery quality underneath, like warm brioche fresh from the oven.

Palate:

On the palate, that bread-like richness carries through, joined by apricot marmalade and a wash of citrus zest. Alongside it sits a creamy, malty backbone with a faint floral quality, and a subtle mineral edge that keeps the sweetness from feeling heavy — more chalky freshness than saltiness.

Finish:

The finish is long and comforting: vanilla custard, orange blossom, and a slow fade of warm spice that lingers well after the last sip.

Overall character: this isn’t a whisky built around peat smoke or heavy oak — it’s an orchard-fruit, pastry-shop kind of dram, defined by ripe stone fruit, buttery baked notes, gentle florals, and a clean, mineral-tinged backbone. The oak influence from a decade in ex-bourbon casks shows up mainly as vanilla and light spice rather than dominating the profile — a restrained, confident use of ten years’ maturation rather than an aggressively woody one.
